The ancient Chinese tale of Zhi Yin (知音) tells of two strangers from distant lands who find in each other a soulmate through the music of the Gu Qin, a traditional Chinese instrument. With each pluck of a string, the other sees the beauty of flowing waters and far away mountains, forming a bond between the men that will never be broken.
Taking inspiration from this ancient tale, One Infinity is a unique cross-cultural collaboration between masters of music and dance from China, Australia and the United Kingdom. Audiences are taken on a journey to far away splendour as they witness the power of music and movement to communicate without words.
A collaboration with Beijing Jun Tian Fang Music Ensemble, Dancenorth Australia and Beijing Dance Theatre, One Infinity is directed and choreographed by Gideon Obarzanek with the music co-composed by Max de Wardener (UK), Genevieve Lacey (Australia) and Wang Peng (China).
One Infinity has been generously supported by Australia’s Major Festival Initiative. It will premiere at Melbourne International Festival in October 2018, followed by seasons in the Sydney at Perth Festivals in early 2019.
